5-POINT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st, 2018

This article was originally published on September 21st, 2018.

Here is the weekly dose of “5-Point Friday”. A weekly round-up of the sports news and stories that I find most interesting and enjoyable.

Surfing event I have been enjoying -

This week saw the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games, in Tahara, Japan. The ISA competition features the unique Aloha Cup, which is an exciting, non-stop relay of Surfing. The Aloha Cup is a little different as it is made up of countries rather than individuals, with this year's winners being team Spain. The Men's Open was won by Argentina's Santiago Muñiz. The Woman's Open final will take place later today.

Baseball story I am appreciating -

Baltimore Orioles may be having a year to forget. However, on Tuesday the team commemorated the 40th anniversary of the move to Baltimore of the National Federation of the Blind’s headquarters in history-making fashion. The O’s became the first U.S. professional team, to use Braille lettering on their game-day uniforms.

Cycling story I'm interested in -

Denise Mueller-Korenek, became the fastest human on a bicycle in the world. Reaching an average speed of 183.932 mph (or 296.010 km/h). In order to reach her record-breaking speed, the former US national track, road and mountain bike champion was pulled along by tow rope at 100 mph, before being released to pedal herself.

Best Social Media moment of the week -

Colorado University's mascot, Chip the Buffalo, highlighting the perils of being a mascot. Also respect to the commitment, refusing to take his head off when being carted off the field.

Football game I attended -

On Sunday, I joined 66 thousand others at the LA Coliseum, to see the Rams host the Cardinals. The Rams overran the Cardinals defense, with a 34-0 victory. Todd Gurley (@TG3II) proved once again that he is one of the best running backs in the country, scoring three touchdowns. Jared Goff (@JaredGoff16) also showed his class, throwing for 354 yards and a touchdown, to tight-end Tyler Higbee (@Ty_Higs19). Highlights can be found here:

Have a wonderful weekend, all!
